We are a husband-wife team and founded Acework in 1993 following the success of our first software product "Toy Chest". At that time, our boys were 3 and 5, and there wasn't any quality product on the market for this age group. My husband has a successful career in a software company, and I worked as a freelance graphic designer. However, we continued developing games and curriculum on our spare time. Over the years, our skills and product ideas matured as our boys grew up.
As first generation Chinese Americans, we wish our children to understand Chinese. However, it was an uphill battle. They found Chinese schools difficult and uninspiring and eventually dropped out. I begged them every summer, just give me a week, and you will learn to speak Chinese. This plead fell on deaf ears year after year until they went off to College. Then, suddenly, one after the other started to ask me to teach them Chinese. I developed this one week curriculum for them because I knew if I could not get them hooked in a week, I would have lost them forever. It did get them hooked, and they are now building their Chinese skills on their own.
I feel this is a curriculum easier for English speakers to absorb. With the help of my husband's software expertise, we are able to make it interactive and customizable. We hope you will find it helpful for your courageous attempt at learning this challenging yet beautiful language.
